The French Revolution

The fall of the Bastille and the Declaration of the Rights of Man overturn the European order.

A fiscal crisis forces the king to summon the Estates-General for the first time in 175 years. The third estate declares itself a National Assembly, and on 14 July a crowd takes the Bastille. Within two years privilege is abolished, the Rights of Man proclaimed, and French Jews become the first in Europe granted full citizenship.
