The Founding of the United Nations
Fifty-one states sign a charter meant to prevent another world war.
In San Francisco fifty-one states adopt the UN Charter, a second attempt after the failed League of Nations: a Security Council with five vetoes, a General Assembly of one vote per state, and in 1948 the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Its 1947 partition resolution opened the way to the State of Israel.
