Chiddushei HaRim — Rabbi Yitzchak Meir Alter רבי יצחק מאיר אלתר — חידושי הרי"ם

founder of the Ger court, disciple of the Kotzker

Rabbi Yitzchak Meir studied with the Holy Jew of Peshischa and then with Rabbi Menachem Mendel of Kotzk. He was also a first-rate Talmudist: his novellae, the Chiddushei HaRim, are studied in yeshivot regardless of Hasidic affiliation.

After the Kotzker's death in 5619 the Hasidim followed him, and the court moved to Ger (Góra Kalwaria) near Warsaw. The Ger court joined Hasidic life to a severe discipline of study and by the early twentieth century was the largest in Poland. His grandson, the Sfas Emes, carried the house on after him.
