Rabbi Nachum of Chernobyl רבי נחום מצ'רנוביל

Rabbi Menachem Nachum still knew the Baal Shem Tov, but studied chiefly with the Maggid. He walked the towns of Ukraine as a preacher, lived in poverty and, by all accounts, gave away whatever he received.

His book Meor Einayim is one of the early expositions of Hasidic teaching. Eight of his grandsons founded courts of their own — Talne, Skver, Rachmastrivka, Makarov and others — and the Chernobyl branch became one of the most widely ramified. Its descendants continue the courts in Israel and America.
