Yismach Moshe — Rabbi Moshe Teitelbaum רבי משה טייטלבוים — ישמח משה
disciple of the Seer of Lublin, founder of the Sighet-Satmar dynasty
Rabbi Moshe Teitelbaum was a known halakhist and rabbi of Ujhely in Hungary when, no longer young, he embraced Hasidism and became a disciple of the Seer of Lublin. For Hungarian Jewry this was a turn: until then Hasidism had almost no footing there.
His commentary Yismach Moshe gave him the name by which he is known, as Hasidim call a master by his book. From him descends the dynasty that led, through Sighet, to the Satmar court of the twentieth century.
