Person
Ahaziah אחזיהו
king of Judah for one year; killed together with the house of Ahab
Ahaziah became king at twenty-two and reigned one year. His mother was Athaliah, granddaughter of Omri, «and she was his counsellor to do wickedly». He went with Jehoram king of Israel to war against Aram, and then to visit him wounded at Jezreel — and fell to the sword of Jehu son of Nimshi, who that day was destroying the whole house of Ahab (2 Kings 9:27).
His death nearly ended the house of David: Athaliah, seeing her son dead, arose and destroyed «all the royal seed». One infant was saved — Joash, whom Jehosheba, Ahaziah's sister, hid in the Temple. AM 3049–3050, approximate; academically 841 BCE.
