Abdon son of Hillel עבדון בן הלל

"And after him Abdon son of Hillel the Pirathonite judged Israel. He had forty sons and thirty grandsons, who rode on seventy donkeys. And he judged Israel eight years."

Seventy riders of one family — at a time when the donkey was the animal of the notables — is a picture of an influential and prosperous household. He was buried at Pirathon, in the land of Ephraim, "in the hill country of the Amalekite."

And the next verse opens a new cycle: "and the Israelites again did what was evil in the eyes of the LORD, and the LORD gave them into the hand of the Philistines forty years." It is the longest oppression in the book, and it will end only with Samson — or rather, will not quite end even then.
