Pekahiah פקחיה
king of Israel for two years; killed by his own officer
Pekahiah son of Menahem reigned two years. Pekah son of Remaliah, his officer, conspired against him and killed him in Samaria, «in the citadel of the king's house», taking fifty men of Gilead with him (2 Kings 15:25).
The part played by the Gileadites is noted for a reason: Transjordan was the first thing Assyria cut away from Israel, and its men in a plot at the capital are a sign that the kingdom was coming apart at the seams before the army ever arrived.
