Przysucha פשיסחא

The court that rose against wonders: the work must be one's own. Kotzk and Ger came out of Przysucha.

The Yehudi ha-Kadosh, R. Yaakov Yitzchak Rabinowicz, was a student of the Chozeh of Lublin and parted from his teacher on the essential point: if people come to a rebbe for wonders and counsel, they stop doing the work themselves. Przysucha demanded study, inner honesty, and prayer not by the clock but when ready.

The Lublin–Przysucha dispute survives in the telling of both sides, which makes it especially valuable: Lublin said a simple person needs something to lean on; Przysucha, that a support one leans on and never lets go of stops being a support.
