Shallum son of Jabesh reigned in Samaria one month. Menahem son of Gadi came up from Tirzah, entered Samaria, killed him and reigned in his place (2 Kings 15:13–15).
Four kings within a single year — Zechariah, Shallum, Menahem — show what power in the north had become a generation before the end: the throne passed neither by inheritance nor by choice, but by the strength of whoever reached the capital first.
