A Lithuanian yeshiva with its own method of analysis and its own order: here structure was put above inspiration.
The Telz yeshiva took shape at the end of the nineteenth century and differed from the rest in its order: classes by level, examinations, and its own method of analysis — the Telzer derech, which built a sugya as a system of concepts.
In 1941 the community of Telz was almost entirely destroyed. Students who had left earlier managed to re-establish the yeshiva in Cleveland, where the Telz way of learning is kept to this day.
