Jehoahaz יהואחז מלך יהודה

After Josiah fell in battle at Megiddo, the people of the land took his son Jehoahaz and anointed him king in his father's place (2 Kings 23:30). He was twenty-three years old and reigned three months.

Pharaoh Necho, returning from the north, imprisoned him at Riblah in the land of Hamath, laid a tribute of silver and gold on the country, and made his brother Eliakim king instead, renaming him Jehoiakim. Jehoahaz himself was taken to Egypt, and there he died (2 Kings 23:31–34). Jeremiah mourned him by name as Shallum: «Weep not for the dead, nor bemoan him; weep sore for him that goes away, for he shall return no more, nor see his native country» (Jeremiah 22:10–12).

He is the first king of the house of David deposed by a foreign power — and with him begins Judah's last twenty years, when kings are set up and taken down by Egypt and Babylon. The year is AM 3316 by the traditional count, 609 BCE by the academic one.
