Jehoram of Israel יהורם מלך ישראל
king of Israel for twelve years; killed by Jehu
Jehoram, brother of Ahaziah, reigned twelve years. Kings notes his half-measure: he removed the pillar of Baal that his father had set up, but did not turn from the sins of Jeroboam. In his days Elisha was at work: the siege of Samaria and the famine that ended with the besiegers fleeing in the night; the healing of Naaman; the raising of the Shunammite's son.
The end came at Jezreel. Wounded in the battle for Ramoth-Gilead, Jehoram lay there; Jehu son of Nimshi, anointed by a prophet, rode from Ramoth, and on the field of Naboth — the very ground for which Naboth had died — shot him in the back. «And Jehu said to Bidkar his officer: take him up and cast him on the plot of the field of Naboth the Jezreelite» (2 Kings 9:25). The house of Ahab was ended.
